Sway Dance Studio’s Dance in Schools Program
Sway Dance Studio is a social dance studio, committed to providing a comprehensive dance program that successfully caters for all age groups and ability levels. The Sway Dance Studio Dance in Schools Program clearly reflects a holistic approach and commitment to successful learning and teaching. All programs are based on the establishment of a strong and positive partnership with schools. The youthful, professional team of dance instructors presents as positive role models to all students. It is also our goal to cater for all groups within school environments (primary and secondary students, staff members and parents)
It is with enthusiasm that we are embracing the most recent curriculum initiative in Victorian schools. The Victorian Essential Learning Standards includes Dance within The Arts Domain and sets Creating and Making and Exploring and Responding as the two main dimensions. Through the introduction of different dance styles and movement to music dance techniques, students are exposed to a wealth of learning experiences that focus on the development of skills in making, interpreting, performing, creating, presenting and responding. The bonus of this learning approach also relates to improving student fitness levels and sense of overall well-being. Through dance, students are introduced to activities that nurture positive self esteem and the development of effective team skills. An important learning and teaching goal at Sway Dance Studio is to ensure that learning to dance is fun.
Schools that are focused on using Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences model will quickly recognise dance as a powerful area of learning.

Social Progressive Dances & Zumba Fitness workout classes
The dance styles can be matched to all school programs (Classroom/Year Level Programs, Elective Programs, Gifted Education Programs, Debutante Balls, Musical Theatre/Performance Programs, and Performing Arts Programs). Individual stages of developmental learning is taken into account when developing the Dance Programs. The dances include individual and partner learning experiences. Younger primary age children are also introduced to a variety of fun theme-related movement to music games.
Funky Fitness Program
- Sway Dance Studio’s Funky Fitness Program provides all students with a fun alternative to boost individual fitness levels in school-based Physical Education programs
Dance Choreography for School Performances
- We enjoy working with students and teaching staff members in the development of highly
entertaining school performances.
Active After School Care Program
- Sway Dance Studio is a formally registered service provider of dance to schools within the structure of the Federal Government funded Active After School Care Program.
Secondary School Debutante Balls
- Sway Dance Studio has been involved in the organisation of Debutante Balls for the past nine years. A modern approach is taken to introduce dances (e.g. Salsa, Argentine Tango, Cha Cha) that students will enjoy for this all important school social event. The approach is also maintained in the careful selection of tasteful modern music that will be of appeal to students. The teaching staff at Sway Dance Studio is committed to being involved as much as possible in the full organisation of each Debutante Ball. Basically we offer a choreographed performance from beginning to end. Sway Dance studio can successfully take full responsibility for the organisation of this school highlight event if desired (e.g. venue booking and ongoing liaison between the school, venue and dance studio, ticketing, choreographing of dance routines and appropriate stage presentations, Master of Ceremonies)
Staff Welfare
- Staff well-being is an important factor in all work environments. Sway Dance Studio can provide programs that cater for staff education and staff well-being. Dance can add a special flavour to your next curriculum day, after school professional development program, staff conference or staff social evening. Learning is active and fun!
Parent Participation
- It is important that parents feel included in school programs. The staff at Sway Dance Studio can organise parent dance workshop sessions. What a positive way of alerting parents to the virtues of dance as a tool to successful learning! Dance can be included in school community social events. The staff at Sway Dance Studio can also provide entertaining dance showcase performances as school community fundraising events.
Legal Requirements
- All staff members at Sway Dance Studio have current police checks. Sway Dance Studio’s Dance in Schools Program instructors has completed the Department of Justice’s Working With Children Checks.
